Tony Kaye Driver Training has been going since 1993 and only operates fully trained, Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, driving instructors.

The driving instruction is designed to fit around the student's needs and availability, so as to fit in with school, college, university or work. It is sometimes difficult to find the time during the day for lessons so subject to availability, we also offer lessons during the evening.
We will teach you the skills to become a safe, confident driver, with enjoyable lessons enabling you to learn at a pace that is comfortable for you.
If you were to think about it, a driving licence is probably one of the most useful qualifications you will ever have.

FAQs

Q. What do I need to bring to my first lesson?

A. Both parts of your provisional driver’s licence, the photo card and the paper counterpart. If you require glasses you must wear them, and you must be able to read a number plate at a distance of 20.5 metres.

 

Q. How old do I have to be before I can start driving lessons?

A. You can start learning to drive as soon as you have turned 17 or have a Higher Level Disability allowance which allows you to start learning at 16.

 

Q. How many lessons will I need?

A. Everybody is different, and people learn at different pace. However, the Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency (the governing body who set the test) advises that the average learner requires approximately 45 hours' professional practice and a further 20 hours' private practice. Remember this is only a guide it is possible to complete your training more quickly, equally it may take longer.

 

Q. Can I take lessons in my own car?

A. After an initial assessment in your instructor’s vehicle, your instructor will be able to give you a more balanced judgement on the situation and discuss your options.

 

Q. How long are the lessons? 

A. Most lessons are 1 hour; however, you can have longer if you wish. We also offer 1 ½ hour, and 2-hour lessons. Longer lessons are available upon request when going into semi-intensive courses.

 

Q. Can I be picked up from work/college/school?

A. Providing it is a reasonable request then yes; many students have free time during school/work and we are happy to offer this service.

 

Q. Is it ok to practice with parents/friends?

A. Yes both. We and the DVSA recommend private practice, but remember it is only practising what has already been learnt. The test may have changed since your parents/friends passed their test. Please let your instructor do the teaching.

 

Q. What do I need to take with me for my practical driving test?

A. You must take both parts of your provisional driving licence. Please take your theory test certificate and the conformation e-mail/letter of your test appointment if available.

 

Q. Will my instructor sit in the back seat on my test?

A. The examiner will ask you if you would like your accompanying driver in the backseat the choice is yours. We are happy to sit in the back for your test however the decision is usually made between you and your instructor before the test.
